Uncles and Aunties - Brandon
In Singapore, and many Asian cultures, it is customary to address men of an older generation as ‘Uncle,’ and women as ‘Auntie.’ This warm expression conveys a sentiment of trust and respect.
This photo series captures the typical Singaporean ‘uncle’ that can be spotted relaxing around the Hawker Centers and HDB public spaces.
This photo was captured in a 5-foot-way, a covered walkway, similar to an arcade, that is common along shop fronts, to protect pedestrians from the rain. We see a stark contrast between the newspaper, and traditional offerings, versus the knockoff Gucci bag and plastic coffee cup on the table.
