About Hong Kong

Hong Kong is in south-eastern China, on the eastern bank of the Pearl River. A former British colony that was handed back to China in 1997, the city follows the “one country, two systems” principle, which sets it apart from the rest of China. For that reason, Hong Kong retains its own legal system (common law), currency (the Hong Kong dollar), political system (a multi-party system), international sports teams, internet domain (.hk), dial code (+852) and highway code (driving on the left). Hong Kong has its own police force, which was founded under British rule in 1844. Originally called the Royal Hong Kong Police, it subsequently became the Hong Kong Police Force. The city is the centre of cantopop, a musical genre unique to Hong Kong and also known as HK-Pop. Its stars include Leslie Cheung and Anita Mui.

We have depicted the skyline of Hong Kong as seen from Tsim Sha Tsui.

You can see the convention and exhibition centre, the Bank of China, IFC Two and the Central Plaza.
